Mom slipped away into the arms of Jesus on August 12th, 2024 at the age of 96.
She was predeceased by her loving husband and soulmate Bill Smith, her parents Floyd and Maita (Warner) Clark, her sister Betty (Dave deceased) McLean, grandson Samuel Borozny and her son-in-law Marty Goddard.
Born and raised in Cornwall Ont; She was always a quiet and kind person desiring to help others. She graduated from the Cornwall General Hospital School of Nursing in 1949. Shortly after she married Douglas Kyer and moved to Thorold, ON. Where they raised their five children, Deborah, Marilyn, Judy, Barb, and Doug.
She was employed for many years with the Victorian Order of Nurses, Niagara Branch and was highly respected and esteemed by all who knew her.
After retiring she used her organizational skills to help at the V.O.N. office keeping thousands of patient records well organized; preparing charts for use and ensuring that all documentation was in order before these records were filed away. No task was ever too great for her to tackle while working or volunteering.
She was nominated for the City of St. Catharines Volunteer Recognition Program in 1990.
She was an avid reader, and gifted seamstress, quilter and knitter. A member of the Spiral United Church Women Guild and The Needle Arts Guild she made many quilts. A quilt of downtown Thorold which she participated in making with three of her friends hangs in Thorold Museum for all to enjoy.
She spent her last few years at Tabor Manor in St. Catharines and was reading daily always enjoying when visitors came by.
She will be greatly missed by her children; Deborah (Ric) Borozny, Marilyn (Barry) Keown, Judy (Brent) Funk, Barb (Marty deceased) Goddard, Doug (Tracy) Kyer.
Step mother to Brian (Alice) Smith, Lauren (Barry Hodgson) Lynden and Shelley Smith Johnson (Curtis).
Grandmother of Amanda Borozny, Melanie (Kurt) Splitt and Samuel Borozny (deceased). Matthew Keown, Rebecca (Daniel) Loucks, Syndi (Dalen) Kahiapo, Mike (Dawna) Funk, Deborah (Roy) Olende, Nathan (Carolyn) Funk, Lucus (Andrea) Sangster, Sarah (Chris) Triebe, Tiffany (Al) Klassen, Rachael (Ryan) Warkentin, Charles Kyer, Keith (Hannah) Kyer, Elizabeth (Ben Pokol) Kyer, Hannah Kyer.
Step Grandmother of Laura Goddard, Andrew (Cathy) Smith, Terri Lynn Waugh (Todd), Nathan Gerrittsen, and Anna Gerrittsen. Great Grandmother of 37 Children and 2 great great grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place. The family will receive guests at TABOR MANOR in the chapel at 1 Tabor Dr. Spruce Lane entrance, St. Catharines, on Monday August 26th, 2024 between 10-11am. With a service to celebrate the life of Helen to begin at 11am. Parking is limited. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish, in lieu of flowers may make a memorial donation to Radiant Care, Tabor Manor.
