Christine Broad Obituary
Christine Broad (nee Zuber)
December 24, 1931 – August 4, 2024
Chris Broad passed away peacefully on Sunday August 4, 2024, at Willingdon Creek Village in Powell River, BC. She is survived by her sons Owen (Nancy) of Grand Forks, BC, Mark (Robyn) of Powell River, BC, and Len (Trish) of St. Albert, AB and grandchildren Derek, Sarah (Kolton), Liam, Clare, and Ivy, and great grandson Devlin. Chris is also survived by her sisters Stella, Judy and Natalie, and many nieces and nephews. Chris was predeceased by her husband Wally, her parents Peter and Telka (nee Zimrose) Zuber, sisters Ann, Martha, and Sally and brother Ben.
Chris was born at home on the farm near High Tor, Saskatchewan, one of 8 surviving siblings. Her love of the land began early, and she often recalled working the farm along side of her father. Her parents fostered a strong work ethic, pioneer spirit, resilience, resourcefulness, and Christian faith. Chris headed west to pursue adventure, and while working around Bassano, Alberta, met and fell in love with her cowboy, Wallace Owen Broad. Chris and Wally were married November 14, 1953. They eventually purchased a place in Arras, BC near Dawson Creek and built it into an efficient and self-supporting cattle operation under the brand W-X. They raised their sons there. Chris worked hard at home and in the community, supporting neighbors, 4-H, Bon Accord WI, and especially her church, St Marks.
A few years after Wally’s death, Chris moved into town and continued to work tirelessly for St Marks foodbank and soup kitchen and doing pastoral care for the people of Dawson Creek and surrounding area. In 2018 Chris moved to Powell River to be closer to family, but her heart remained in the Peace Country.
The family wishes to invite you to a Funeral Service for Chris, to be held at St Marks Anglican Church, Dawson Creek, BC at 10:00 am, Wednesday, August 14, 2024. Chris will be laid to rest beside her husband at Brookside Cemetery, Dawson Creek. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia or St Marks Anglican Church.
The family would like to offer our sincere gratitude to the kind and caring staff of Willingdon Creek Village Residence, Powell River, BC.
Very Respectfully, Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium
