1932 – 2024
With our hearts saddened by loss, but overflowing with wonderful memories, the Mann family shares the news that Helen passed peacefully on August 5, 2024.
Pre-deceased in 2022 by her husband of 66 years, Ron, Helen is survived by her three children – Jan in Yukon, Karen (Jim) in Alberta, and Rob (Ellen) in British Columbia, four grandchildren – Andrea (Charlie), Erica, Carli and Reece and one great-grandchild (Jasper). She was born to Rev. Fred and Nellie Lane (nee Rich) and pre-deceased by her only brother, Ken.
Mom was an elementary school teacher by vocation, beginning her career in 1951. By 1956, with the planned arrival of a first child, she ceased full-time teaching and later began a long career of teacher supply in the Kingston-area. She earned a BA, Psychology from Queen’s University in 1984. She had a long history with Queen’s University, working in both student registration and exam invigilation for many years.
As the daughter of a Minister, Mom was involved in the church, and particularly the ministry of music from an early age – accompanying her father to multi-point charges to play the piano for hymns. This love of music continued well into her senior years, with involvement in church and community choirs. Many years of fellowship and wonderful concerts filled her memory jar.

A woman of noble character (Proverbs 31) – She will be missed and remembered always.
Cremation has occurred and the family plans a Celebration of Life for Sunday, August 11, 2024 at 1:00 pm with a reception to follow at James Reid Funeral Home, Cremation and Reception Centre. For those unable to attend in person, you can attend via Livestream by CLICKING HERE.
