Mary Noreen Salsbury Obituary
Mary died peacefully at the KGH on July 30, 2024. Her son Peter and his wife Teri were with her.
Mary was born in Westport Ontario April 24,1931 to Rita (McAndrews) and Gus Kelly. She had one brother James(Jim)(deceased 2019) who was 10 years younger than her.
Mary went to business school in Toronto and eventually returned to Kingston taking an administrative position with Kingston Chamber of Commerce. She ultimately ended up as Assistant to the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Queens University and retired from that position in 1996 after more than 30 years.
In 1952 she married H.O. Salsbury(Owen)(deceased 2007) of Kingston. Mary resided in their Strathcona Park home until late May 2024. It was the family nucleus and everyone was welcome. She embodied the meaning of generosity and kindness.
She is survived by her 5 children Susan(Leger),Jennifer, Heather, Lana (Ron) and Peter (Teri).
Mary was always involved with and dedicated to her grandchildren Kristie, Lucas (Virginia), Dana (Michael), Natalie (Ryan H), Graeme, Allison (Ryan B) and Andrew.
She was known as Gigi to her great grandchildren Rilyn, Bridget and Patrick, twins Reece and Griffin, Bentley, Charlotte and April.
Mary Salsbury was loving, insightful and deeply compassionate. She loved cats and had too many to count over the years. Her beloved cat Rusty was a rescue and is now residing with her daughter Heather.
She loved her bridge club, gardening, her book club, theatre, curling, very good scotch and vacationing in PEI. She was an excellent and adventurous cook. Her food was always amazing and presented with style.
She cherished her relationship with her sister-in-law Jane who became her longtime close friend.
Mary was an exemplary role model who will never be forgotten and will be forever missed. The world is a lesser place without her in it.
A warm thank you to the Palliative Care Unit at KGH, as well as the nurses and staff of the emergency department and Kid 9.
A visitation will be held on Monday, August 5th, 2024, from 3:00 – 6:00 pm at the James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd., Kingston ON. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, August 6th, 2024, at 1:00 pm at St. Joesph’s Catholic Church, 392 Palace Rd, Kingston, immediately following the service a burial will be held at Cataraqui Cemetery, 927 Purdy’s Mill Rd., Kingston. Concluding the burial all are welcome back to the James Reid Funeral for a reception. Donations in Mary’s memory can be made to the Kingston Humane Society or UHKF.
