Barry Adamko, beloved husband of Brenda (nee Dowie), passed away peacefully at the age of 69 years at the Wascana Rehab Center Hospice Unit after a courageous battle with cancer.
Barry was born in Prince Albert, SK, on July 13, 1955, to Frances and William Adamko. He grew up on a farm near Meath Park, SK, with his siblings and many foster children, which were raised by the family over many decades. Witnessing his parents as foster parents inspired him to pursue his Bachelor of Social Work at the University of Regina. Upon completing his Social Work degree, Barry worked with youth for over 40 years in Regina, primarily at Dales House and in the later years, Ranch Ehrlo. He also worked for a very brief time at the Bentley (retirement home) before his illness.
Barry married Brenda on June 8, 1985, and they had three children, Alanna, Graham, and Lisa. Barry enjoyed camping, fishing, tennis, golf, curling, and working on small engine and renovation projects. He also loved travelling, socializing, and playing cards with family and friends. He played crib regularly at the Senior Citizen’s Center. Barry was always willing to help anyone in need, including family, friends, and strangers.
Barry is survived by his wife, Brenda; daughters, Alanna, and Lisa (Austin); son, Graham (Amy); brothers, Don and Ernie (Diane); sister, Eileen (Terry); brothers-in-law, Michael, Dwayne (Barb), and Miles (Lise); as well as mother-in-law, Verna (Albert). He is predeceased by his parents, William and Frances Adamko; father-in-law, Leonard Dowie; sister-in-law, Carolyn Adamko; brother-in-law, Keith Dowie; nephew, Darren Adamko; as well as several aunts, uncles, and extended family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Eastside United Church, 3018 Doan Drive, Regina, SK, on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 11 a.m., with a luncheon to follow. The service will be livestreamed and recorded. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Regina Senior Citizens Center, 2134 Winnipeg St. Regina, SK, S4P 3X6.
