Obituary of Jacoba Gerardina DeRyke
Jacoba (fondly known as Cobie) DeRyke, formerly of Brockville, peacefully entered into rest in her 99th year on Saturday, July 13th, at the Carveth Care Center in Gananoque.
Beloved wife of the late Leendert Marinus DeRyke and dear mother to Len DeRyke (late Elenita) of Tincap, Ineke Carr (Bill) of Brockville, and Nancy Nizman (Don) of Kingston. She was a Cherished Oma (grandmother) of Christopher, Christina, Dustin, Joshua, Shawn, Sonya, and Robert and great-grandmother of eight.
Born in the Netherlands, Jacoba and her husband, Len, immigrated to Canada in 1954 and proudly became Canadian citizens in 1959. In 1963, she began a career with the City of Brockville as a School Crossing Guard. Her Post was on the corner of Stewart Blvd and Central Avenue, a position she held with unwavering dedication and perfect attendance for 43 years, retiring in May 2006.
A private family service will be held at a later date. In memory of Jacoba, the family would like to express their deep gratitude for any donations to the Local Humane Society (SPCA) .
