Rose Kozoriz Obituary
It is with heartache and sorrow that we announce the passing of Rose (Tudy) Kozoriz, (Kopochinski). Rose died peacefully at home on July 8, 2024. She had just celebrated her 100th birthday on June 19.
Born in Brandon, Manitoba, Rose was one of seven children. Tragically, her two brothers, Johnny and Joe, passed away early in life however, she enjoyed a close relationship with her three older sisters, Mary Grandis, Julie Comer, Helen Cornett and her younger sister Jean Mazier. Following completion of Business College, she moved to Toronto where she worked as a secretary. Her beautiful penmanship continued throughout her life.
She met her husband, George, at a church social in September 1949. Engaged by December, they married on July 15, 1950. Thus began her second career as a military wife and mother. The couple had three children: Joanne Blais, George (spouse Rosanne) and Suzanne Duguay (spouse Denis). Two granddaughters, Genevieve Oberle (spouse Jim) and Krista Blais (spouse James Gray) and three great grandchildren, James and Joshua Oberle and Sloan Gray completed the family unit.
Rose dutifully followed her husband as he held various posts in Ontario, mainly in Trenton and Ottawa, including an early three-year assignment in France. The couple travelled regularly, when the children were young, to Manitoba and Alberta to maintain family ties with relatives. Rose became an expert at cooking over a camp stove in the dark while George put up the tent. Over the years, there was travel in Europe, Russia, Australia and throughout Canada and the States.
While she did not engage in employment outside the home, Rose did volunteer work and enjoyed a variety of craft activities. She was a skilled knitter, seamstress and artist. As a couple, Rose and George were a delight to watch on the dance floor.
Upon George’s retirement, the couple returned to the family home, located on the Bay of Quinte, in Carrying Place. It was there that Rose was able to pursue a love of gardening. A very competent baker, her peach pie was always in demand. Family get-togethers will always remember that Rose had to cut a small wedge out of every pie she made to ensure it was perfect, which it always was.
Rose was widowed on December 21, 2007. In July 2018, she moved to Kingston to be closer to family members. In late 2020, she moved in with her daughter, Joanne, where she resided until her passing.
At the request of the family, there will be no visitation and a private family service will be held in the military section of Ottawa Beechwood Cemetery where Rose will join her husband on the day of their wedding anniversary.
Rest easy Mom/Grandma/Nana. You will be sorely missed. We love you.
