Obituary For Lawrence “Stash” Fadden
February 4, 1952 – July 4, 2024
It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Stash (72) into the waiting embrace of his son. He passed at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital July 4th, 2024, while visiting with his daughters and grandkids.
Stash was born February 4th,1952, in Rainy River, Ontario, to Lloyd and Thelma Fadden. He spent his early years living between Haas Island and Split Rock. Being a Nan’s boy, he spent a lot of time with his Nan Mabel and Grampa Ben Fadden.
Stash started guiding at the age of eleven for Dr. Lamey’s family and at Reel-Em-Inn Lodge where his parents worked. He commercial fished along side his dad from his early teens to about 1986.
Stash started dating Colleen in 1968 when she invited him to the Sadie Hawkins dance. They were married April 29, 1972, at the United Church in Rainy River. They welcomed their first daughter Cathy (Laura) in May of 1971, and were reunited in August of 2016. He said he could die happy now that she found her way back home to him. Robert “Bobby” was born in May, 1975, and Jacqueline “Jackie” was born in 1977. They built their home in 1979 and he took great pride in his lawn.
When the kids started school, he started working with MTO, where he worked for many years. He then spent 17 years working with Miller Contracting until he retired.
His last and most favourite job was being Colleen’s kitchen helper at Pegamigaabo School in Big Grassy FN. He often spoke highly of the staff and loved seeing the smiling faces of the children who he grew so fond of.
Stash was a kind, generous, gentle giant of a man. He never spoke a bad word about anyone and always had a smile and a wave. He had many friends, and as we all know the world stopped at 5pm when it was Beer Time! A Sleeman Clear 2.0, the “healthy beer” and a scratchie ticket was his highlight. He loved to watch sports. The 49ers were his team! Jennifer Jones was his favourite curler. He was so happy to get his picture taken with her. This year he had a new favourite curling team- his niece Jenna’s Team Enge.
He also loved his pugs. He got his first pug Snuffy in the late 90’s and he never looked back. He was the happiest when petting his dog.
Stash was so proud of his family and loved each one of us deeply.
He is survived by his loving wife, Colleen, his daughters Cathy (John) and Jackie (Jason). He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Katie, Julia, Emily, Janet and Caleb, his brother Murray (Carol) Fadden, sisters-in-law Carol (Roger) Tetreault and Alice (Lyle) Hall, brothers-in-law Bill (Linda) Enge, Ed (Heather) Enge and Kevin (Marion) Gowerluk, his nieces Colleen, Michelle, Angie, and nephew Christopher.
He was predeceased by his son, Bobby in 1989, his mom Thelma, his dad Lloyd, his brother Ray, his nephew Neil, his Grampa Ben, and Nan Mabel Fadden.
Rest In Peace Dad. We love you to the Moon and Back.
Stash’s Celebration of Life will be held August 10th, 2024, at 11:00am at the Bergland Hall, Bergland, ON.
