Obituary For David John Dibb
David John Dibb, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Grovedale, AB, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital at the age of 91 years. He will be missed dearly.
Dave was born in Islay, AB, to Harold and Eva Dibb. He was the oldest of four siblings: May, Eileen, Elinor and Bryan. Dave left school at a young age to help on the farm when his dad became ill. Dave worked in various jobs whether delivering milk on a horse and cart, line slashing on horseback or chipping ice and doing farm or labour work to make ends meet.
Dave had four children during his first marriage. In the 60’s, Dave worked for Bain brothers as an operator and foreman as well as for Dakota, building hauling roads for P&G and operating a grader for a few years maintaining them.
Dave met and married Mary Zachar on December 7, 1974, Dave became stepfather to Mary’s four children. They bought land in Grovedale in 1978 and built a beautiful home together where they lived until 2013. He loved farm life, the animals and always had a fondness for his horses and his highland cows.
Dave worked in modular home building, and in 1977 Dave bought his own Cat which he operated and leased out primarily with Wales Bros. Dave formed his company, Dave Dibb Contracting and ended his career working as a supervisor and consultant for Bird Dog Energy and Kinetic Energy, where he developed many good relationships with companies, such as Smash and Sons. Dave was very proud of his work history, and he knew the area around Grande Prairie like the back of his hand.
Dave was a hardworking, no-fuss, no-nonsense kind of man. He could always repurpose things to fix whatever needed repair. He loved to tinker in his shop and work in his flower and vegetable gardens. Dave was a member of the Christian Fellowship Assembly and was also very involved in the Grovedale community.
Dave especially loved his land and always treasured the time spent there with his family and friends.
David was predeceased by his wife Mary Dibb.
Dave will be sadly missed by children: Reginald Zachar, Val Beilman (Dan), Christine Nelson (Terry), Cynthia Zachar (Rob), Ben Dibb (Debbie), Barry Dibb (Cindy), Barb Burroughs, and Debbie Dibb; grandchildren: Michael Zachar, David Zachar, Mandy Mann, Matthew Beilman (Jamie), Sarah Student (Kevin), Erik Nelson, Travis Nelson, Tyler Nelson (Jessie), Emalee Engler (Adam), Hunter Engler, Larry Dibb and Darren Dibb, Alyssa, Cameron and Ross Burroughs, Jody Bueckert, Todd and Veronica Dibb, Cherli Dibb; great-grandchildren: Sadie Student, Chloe Student, Billie Beilman, Carter Nelson, Kaylee Mann, and Caleb Rommelaere.
