JOHNSTON, Murray
It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Murray Johnston into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at his home, at the age of 87. Beloved husband of Jean Johnston for 59 years. Loving father of Jeffrey and the late Heather. Papa of Sharon Johnston and Trisha Slade. Dear brother of Bernice Taras (Edward) and Larry Johnston (Sandra). Predeceased by parents Wesley and Annie (nee Pogue), siblings, Leona Liden, Russell Johnston, William Johnston, Evelyn Johnston, Gordon Johnston, and Marilyn Langille, and brother-in-law John Mitchinson. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Murray was born in Fenwick, Ontario, later moving to Niagara Falls. He graduated from Stamford Collegiate and excelled in many sports, hockey, basketball and football, earning a Hockey Scholarship to Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York. He started a long career with the City of Niagara Falls, retiring as the Director of the Building and Inspections Department in 1994. Murray was an active member at Grace Gospel Church since 1974 and led their Senior Men’s Group for the last 30 years. He also led weekly bible studies at Cavendish Manor. He was an avid golfer and was a member at Lookout Point Golf Club. He cherished his friendships with the Stamford Old Boys. He loved his wife beyond measure and made sure that every care was taken to ensure a good life for her now and forever.
The family will receive friends at MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main St., Niagara Falls, on Monday, July 1, 2024, from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. A service to celebrate Murray’s life will be held at Grace Gospel Church, 5855 Valley Way, Niagara Falls, On Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. Burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery.
