Moncton, NB – Arnaud Melanson “Arnie”, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 22nd, at Ocean Hall Nursing Home at the age of 95. Born in Moncton, NB he was the son of the late Léo and the late Marguerite (Gaudet) Melanson.
Arnaud worked as a dental technician at Hub Dental Lab and eventually became co-owner and manager. All his adult life he played music: trumpet, trombone, and accordion occasionally, but mainly piano. For many decades he entertained the public with the Amos Landry band at the Starlight Lounge and the Beauséjour Club, and subsequently with Jazz Generation at the Cosmo club. He was an avid photographer and loved nothing better than a drive out in the country to find subjects to photograph. After retiring, he became an enthusiastic gardener at his cottage in St. Edouard, where he got to commune with nature most of the year. Arnaud loved to play bridge; he read extensively and with great curiosity, and he followed the hockey season passionately.
In 1951 he married his great love, Jeannine Soucy. Together they had seven children: Denise, Giselle, Martin, Monique, Nicolle, Adrien and Armand. Family outings were adventures at the beach and in the countryside, digging clams, collecting wild greens, mushrooms and apples. Nature was the family’s playground.
Arnaud was predeceased by his parents; his siblings: Virgil, Valmont, Andréa, Simonne, Jean-Paul, and Pierre; his best friend: Armand Soucy, and his wife of 67 years. He is survived by his seven children, eighteen grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
The family will have a private Celebration of Life Ceremony. We are grateful to the compassionate staff at Ocean Hall Nursing Home.
