Obituary
In Loving Memory of Lois Marie Keays: Feb 1st,1925 – Feb 15th, 2023.
KEAYS, LOIS MARIE: A kind, gentle and loving woman completed her earthly journey peacefully and surrounded by love at Serenacare, her home for the past five years. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lois Marie Keays (Girvan) on Wednesday, February 15th, at the age of 98. Lois was the daughter of the late Fred Girvan and Agnes MacMichael of Galloway, NB. Lois grew up alongside her three fun loving sisters, Audrey, Eunice, and Dorothy. After graduating from high school, Lois became a loyal devoted employee of the Royal Bank of Canada. This is where she met the love of her life, fellow banker James George Charles Keays.
Jim and Lois had three children, Patti (Terry) Delahunt, Laura (Corinna) Keays, and Jamie (Cathy) Keays. In Lois’s eyes, all three of her children were perfect. Her beloved son Jamie passed away unexpectedly last year. It is our hope that Jim, Lois, and their “baby boy” are reunited in heaven.
Lois had a very special place in her heart for her two precious granddaughters, and she will be lovingly remembered as Grammie by Katelyn (Ian) MacDougall and Lauren (Alex) Young. Lois was incredibly proud of Katelyn and Lauren and Grammie would quickly come to their defence when she felt it was necessary. In recent years, Lois received the gift of three precious great granddaughters, Brynn, Leah, and Aubrey. Despite having dementia, she always had a huge smile and her eyes lit up with visits from and photos of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, three sisters, and son Jamie Keays, Lois is predeceased by her loving husband of 51 years, James Keays. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
Lois loved and cared deeply for her family. Her children were her number one priority. Despite her illness, Lois never lost her sense of humour. Until the end, and to the delight of her family, she was quick with her witty one- liners and her infamous eye rolls. Lois was a long-time member of Mountain View United Church, founding member of the ALS Society of New Brunswick, and spent many dedicated hours as a Moncton Lionette.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to “Team Lois” at Serenacare on Lady Russell Street. Your care, compassion, and ability to create a beautiful homey environment for our mom was truly appreciated. Our family will forever be grateful to the entire Serenacare Team.
Visitation will be held at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (506-858-1995) on Sunday, February 19th from 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service to be held at Fergusons Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, February 20th at 11:00 a.m. Reception in the Funeral Home Reception Centre following the service. A private interment will take place at Alderwood Cemetery following the service.
In memory of Lois, if you wish, you may express your sympathy by donating to Mountain View United Church (mtview.ca), The ALS Society of New Brunswick (als.ca), or a charity of your choice. Online condolences are welcome and appreciated at
