Gerald “Gerry” Carriere Obituary
Gerald “Gerry” Victor Carriere, 1938-2024
It is with great sadness that we are announcing the passing of Gerald (Gerry) Victor Carriere. After a long battle with cancer, on June 21, 2024, at age 85, Gerry passed away peacefully at the Maison McCulloch Hospice surrounded by his family. He was a devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather (Poppa), and great-grandfather (Great-Poppa).
Gerry is now reunited with his wife Lillian (predeceased) of 60 years and his parents Victor and Juliette (nee Rousselle). He will be sadly missed by sisters Leona Robertson (Brian) and Elaine Tisdale (Dave). He is predeceased by his sister Claudette (Gabby) Gosselin and brother Robert “Bobby” (Joy) Carriere.
Loving father to Kimberly “Kim” Rienguette, William “Billy” (Wanda) Carriere, Vicki Carriere (Yvon), Gerald “Gerry” (Polly) Carriere. Poppa to Michele (Dave) Demetroff, Julie (Justin) Tarini, Carley Rienguette-Nadeau (Eric), Kelsie Santala (Cale), Kyle Carriere, Ashley Santala (Mike), Jillian Santala (Josh), and Kendra Carriere (Emma). Proud great-grandfather of Sara and Benjamin Demetroff, Holdynn Rienguette-Nadeau, William and Lillian Tarini, and Otto Deppisch.
Gerry will also be greatly missed by many nieces/nephews, sister/brother-in-law’s, relatives, and friends.
Born August 5, 1938, and raised in Coniston Ontario. Gerry had a knack for tools and could fix anything. He brought this passion into his career as a mechanic. He dedicated his time to Nickel Centre Fire Dept., being a volunteer firefighter for over 25 years. Gerry always loved helping others, also volunteering to drive with the Children’s Aid Society and Operation Red Nose.
He loved travelling in his motorhome, especially when family or friends could join him. He was an avid bowler, baseball player, and hockey player in his younger years. Recently, he enjoyed meeting with friends at the mall for a walk and a coffee, and you could always find him at church on Sunday’s.
A heart-felt thank you goes out to the amazing care teams at Maison McCulloch Hospice, the Northeast Cancer Centre, and Health Sciences North.
Relatives and friends will be received at the Notre-Dame de la Riviere Roman Catholic Church, 60 Hill St. Wahnapitae, on Saturday, June 29, at 10:00am. A funeral mass will follow at 11:00am. The family would like to extend an invite to join them for a reception in the church hall after the funeral mass. Donations in his memory can be made directly to Maison McCulloch Hospice (maisonsudburyhospice.org/donate/) and would be greatly appreciated by his family.
