Cunningham, Heather Ann (Smith), Overton, NS
It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Heather Cunningham on June 4, 2024, at her home. Born in Yarmouth on June 13, 1948, to the late George and Audrey (Little) Smith, Heather graduated as an RN from the Yarmouth School of Nursing in 1969, as Valedictorian of her class. Until 1978, she worked at Summerset Manor in Summerside, PEI, and she had a special love for caring for the elderly. After moving back to Yarmouth, she was employed as an Instructor at the Yarmouth School of Nursing, as a Registered Nurse at Diabetes Education at Yarmouth Regional Hospital and retired from Veteran’s Place in 2018. She was a caregiver at heart and the most dedicated nurse, taking great care of not only her patients, but her entire family and anyone needing a helping hand.
In her high school years, she was the Captain of Yarmouth Majorettes, a YCMHS cheerleader, and worked at Toots Confectionery. She was always involved in her daughters’ activities as they grew up and was a 4-H leader for many years. She was passionate about gardening and had received many Mayflower Awards for her beautiful property and flower gardens. Heather was an avid reader, crafter and loved to sew. Most recently she had become a member of the Rugg Bee’s and was enjoying learning the art of rug hooking.
Heather was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who never missed a family event, was game for any adventure and was her girls’ biggest supporter. She will be forever missed.
She is survived by her daughters, Tamara Ward (Sheldon LeBlanc), Dayton, NS, Tracey Saulnier (Terry), Deerfield, NS, and Tara Smith (Chris), Deerfield, NS, her grandchildren, Caitlin (Mike), Chad, Hannah, & Natasha Ward, Blaine, Hayden, & Brady Saulnier, Payton & Piper Smith, great-grandchildren Gracie, Lennon, Everleigh, & Aaliyah . She is also survived by her sister Gena (Philip) Capstick, Scot’s Bay, NS, brother Gary (Linda) Smith, Carleton, NS, and the father of her children Wayne Cunningham, Gardners Mills, NS, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, her companion Harold Brannen and father-in-law John Cunningham.
Many thanks to Rose, Betty Jean, Laurie, Fraser, Donna, & Sylvia for being such good friends to Mom, you were all so important to her.
