EVANS, Arthur (Art) – With great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dad, Art Evans. Art passed quite suddenly on Sunday June 16th, 2024 at the age of 81, in his home. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Mary Ann (2018). Predeceased by his parents Lester and Gladys Evans.
Loving father of Ryan (Dana) their son Cristian, Erin Peskett (Christopher), grandson Cooper, son Brendan (Malinna), grandchildren Hailey, Keira, Opie, and fur grandchild Khaleesi.
Art was a respected real estate agent for more than 35 years. He started and ran a property management company with his wife Mary Ann, and was assisted by his two sons. Prior to his real estate career, Art had various jobs that included running local bars/hotels, working at Chicago Bridge and Iron, and Pinty’s Food. The time he spent at these places created a wealth of fond memories for Art, and to many stories with which he enjoyed regaling all those who would listen.
Art was an active member of the Welland YMCA for many years. He enjoyed working out at the YMCA on a regular basis and socializing with other Y members. If you knew Art and happened to run into him at the Y, you were sure to hear a story about the good ol’ days, what his children were up to or how proud he was of his grandchildren. He was an avid biker who loved his Harley dearly. He spent many days cruising throughout the Niagara region, visiting friends and stopping at many Tim Hortons along the way for coffee with his fellow Harley Davidson enthusiasts. Everyone who knew him, knew he lost his leg in a motorcycle accident, which never deterred his passion for riding, and led him to convert his bike to a trike. After that he and “Charlie”, which he humorously named his prostatic leg, enjoyed many rides on his Harley.
After Mary Ann’s sudden passing, Art lived with his youngest son Brendan and his family. This brought him immense joy in his last years and helped him through his various health struggles. Art often said how lucky he was to be able to see his granddaughters grow up and be such a big part of their lives. Opie always brought a smile to Art’s face by stealing his cane, giving him huge cuddles, or climbing on his trike with him. Not a day will go by without him being missed.
Art will be lovingly remembered by family, friends and all who knew him. Those who listened to many of his larger than life stories, and who heard his Harley roaring down the road, will forever hold those memories close.
The family will receive their friends at the H. L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland on Saturday, June 29th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Following the celebration of life, all are invited to join a “last ride” with Art, if you are a Harley rider please attend with your bike. Art’s last ride will conclude with a stop at a local establishment and a toast in his honor. If desired memorial donations in Art’s memory may be made to Welland YMCA or Hamilton General hospital cardiac or vascular departments. Online condolences available at www.cudneyfuneralhome.com.
