Lynn Derwantz
1953 ~ 2024
Lynn Derwantz (nee Shupe), a cherished resident of Stettler and beloved wife of Wayne Derwantz, peacefully passed away at the Stettler Hospital & Care Centre on June 9, 2024, at the age of 71 years.
Lynn was born in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, to Doug and Lois Shupe. She spent her formative years attending grade school in Edmonton, Ponoka, and eventually settling in Stettler where she graduated high school in 1970/71. It was in Stettler where Lynn met the love of her life, Wayne, in 1970, and they were married on July 15, 1972. Together, they embarked on a journey that led them to Whitecourt in 1972.
In Whitecourt, Lynn worked at various banks and later owned a drapery shop. She poured her heart into her family, welcoming her son Rick in 1977 and daughter Stephanie in 1979. Lynn was a dedicated mother, passionately involved in her children’s figure skating pursuits in which they excelled as national competitors. She was also active in Sororities and found joy in knitting, sewing, drawing, painting and gardening.
In 2003, Lynn and Wayne returned to Stettler, where Lynn became deeply involved with the United Church. She enjoyed renovating the homes they owned in Stettler. She cherished her community and was known for her warm presence and unwavering support for her friends and family. Lynn found immense joy in watching her children and grandchildren excel in their various endeavors, and she treasured every moment spent with her many friends.
Lynn’s memory will be forever cherished by her loving husband Wayne, her children Rick and Stephanie, her grandchildren, large family and a multitude of friends whose lives she touched with her kindness, warmth, and laughter.
Lynn is survived by her loving husband Wayne; children Stephanie (Nick) and Rick (Melanie); grandchildren: Keaton, Logan, Jaslynn and Kendall; sisters Kathie (Cam) Walt, Iva Lee (Dwight) Quance and Sandy (Ken) Knox; mother-in-law Blanche Henry; sister-in-law Diane Anderson; brothers-in-law Scott (Debbie) Derwantz and Larry (Susan) Derwantz; step mother Dorothy Stewart; step brothers Kevin (Susan) Stewart, Greg (Judy) Stewart; step sister Karen Vinet; as well as many other relatives and many wonderful friends.
Lynn was predeceased by her parents Doug and Lois Shupe; niece Krista Walt and father-in-law Richard Derwantz.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at the Stettler United Church, Stettler, Alberta.

“Though her smile is gone forever and her hand we cannot touch, we shall never lose sweet memories of the one we loved so much.”
