ROSENBERG, Ruth Isobel (Kinzie) 1924 -2023
On February 10, 2023, with her family around her, Mom went home to her eternal reward, where her husband, Wilfred “Pop” Rosenberg; her sisters, Doris Weber (Ralph), Helen Kinzie, Edith Wanner (Clarence); her parents, Eden and Clara (Kellsey) Kinzie; son-in-law, Ken Brocklebank and daughter-in-law Maxine Rosenberg were waiting and welcomed her.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Suzanne Brocklebank, Kathy Rosenberg, Peter Rosenberg, Nancy Thayer and her husband Kirk; her grandchildren, Melissa Verkley (Steve), Meagan Rosenberg, Carter Thayer and Carson Thayer. She is remembered by cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
She was born April 21, 1924, the day she proudly shared with the late Queen Elizabeth II. Growing up as a city girl in Kitchener, she attended Normal School Teacher’s College in Stratford, and started teaching in rural one room and two room schools outside of Tavistock and then Grades 1 and 2 at Tavistock Public School until her retirement in 1984.
It was teaching at one of these rural schools where she met her husband, Wilfred “Pop” Rosenberg and they were married July 17, 1948. Throughout their lives they farmed and served the surrounding community, moving into Tavistock in 1970.
Outside of her family and teaching career, she loved to serve others in her own quiet way; family, friends, Community and Church.
As a faithful member of Elgin Missionary Church, Stratford, she taught children in Sunday School and Junior Church, was involved in Women’s Ministry, served on the Church Board and enjoyed singing in the choir.
As a true life long learner, Mom credits the forward thinking of the Women’s’ Institute for her introduction to Rural Life. Making lifelong friends and working on many Community projects, she was recently honoured by the Princess Elizabeth Women’s Institute for 65 years of Volunteer Service.
She was a strong supporter of the Tavistock Agricultural Society. She held the position of the Ladies Homecraft President in 1989-1990 and received the Achievement Award in 1994. She was a proud exhibitor, from flowers to handicrafts, even up to last year.
Her hands and mind were never idle. Whether cooking, sewing, quilting, reading, gardening or canning, there was always something being worked on. Anyone who visited her while living at the Village Manor in Tavistock never left without a dishcloth or a “Pink Popcorn” geranium slip.
Family and friends are welcome to visit on Friday February 24 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 pm at the Francis Funeral Home in Tavistock. A Celebration of her Life will be held on Saturday February 25, 2023 at 2 pm at Elgin Missionary Church, 4192 Perth County Line 36 (corner of O’Loane and Quinlan Rd.) Stratford ON. Pastor George Grierson will be officiating.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to Elgin Missionary Church Ladies Ministry, Princess Elizabeth Woman’s Institute, London’s Children’s Hospital or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated and may be made through the Francis Funeral Home by calling 519-655-2431. Personal condolences can be posted at www.francisfh.ca
