Passed peacefully away surrounded by his loving family at Carbonear General Hospital on June 10, 2024, Earl Pryor of Turk’s Cove, age 72 years.
Predeceased by father: Wilson Pryor; mother-in-law: Mary Bursey; brothers-in-law: Gary Rice, Clyde Rodgers, and John Green; sisters-in-law: Marilyn Pretty, Joan Green, and Magretta Best.
Leaving to mourn with cherished memories and broken hearts, loving wife of 51 years, Ellie; daughters (Dad’s girls): Tracy Rowe, Trina (Jason) Young, and Mary (Brandon) Pryor-Slade; precious grandchildren: Josh (Heidi) Rowe, Julia (Alex) Rowe, Tristan Young, and Parker Slade; cherished great-grandchildren: Greyson, Georgia, Ellie-Jane, Raya, and Kylie; mother: Letty Pryor; brothers: Edward (Audrey), Eugene (Joan), Terry (Evelyn), Roy (Heather), Robert (Corenna); sister: Marjorie Rice; sisters-in-law: Gwen Rodgers, Donna (Steve) Callahan, and Carol (Don) Hindy; brother-in-law: Jimmy Pretty; as well as a large number of relatives and close friends.
Earl was an avid outdoorsman and loved to spend his time on the water or in the woods – fishing, hunting, and teaching his grandkids his many life skills. Above all, he was a family man and good friend to so many. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In 1985, Earl started his career with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans on the Bay Class, Fisheries Patrol Boats. In November of 1986, he joined the Leonard J. Cowley and commenced a career on the Grand Banks. He was a member of the Armed Boarding Team, 50 Caliber Team, a Rescue Specialist, the Co-Chair of the Shipboard Health and Safety Committee, and the Vice President of his Union. He retired from the Canadian Coast Guard after 32 years of service in 2017. He was also a valued member of the Winterton Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years.
Visitation will be held at the Winterton Community Center, Trinity Bay, NL on Friday, June 14, 2024 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, June 15, 2024 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Interment to follow at the Salvation Army Cemetery in Winterton.
In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, donations in his memory may be made to the Janeway Children’s Hospital Foundation, 370 Torbay Road, St. John’s, NL, A1A 3W8
