Our dear mother, grandmother and aunt passed away peacefully after a few years of suffering from dementia at the age of 97. With great sadness, sons Mladen and partner Terrie Hidalgo, Damir and daughter-in-law Karen, grandchildren Camilla, Andrea, Marko and Emily, step grandchildren Ryan and Sean, nieces and nephews Zvonimir, Charles and Sandra, great nephews Danijel and Igor, aunt in-law to Igor and Davor. She was predeceased by her older sister Sofija (2014), younger brother Vojislav (2014) and younger sister Djurdjica (2008)
Zora was born in a small town in Eastern Croatia one of four children and was the second child and smallest one of all, but outlived them all by many, many years.She grew up in many small towns in Eastern Croatia as her father was posted in various places and they moved a lot. After she got married in Zagreb in 1947, she had her sons and then went to university to study Croatian and English and then taught in a secondary school prior to emigrating to Canada . Zora emigrated from Croatia to Canada with her two sons in 1968 and then went to university of Western Ontario for a year to earn a degree in Library Science (having already a degree from University of Zagreb in Croatia ). She got a job at the University of New Brunswick in 1971 and stayed there until 1978, following that position, she obtained a position of the librarian at the University of Western Ontario where she remained until her retirement in 1991.
A memorial service will be held in late June at G.H. Hogle Funeral Home in Mimico, the date will be announced at a later time.
