Maria Elisabeth “Mary” Pelkmans Obituary
Mary passed away at home on Thursday May 30, 2024. She is survived by children Mary Ladd (Greg), Carol Nesbitt (Steve), Judy Roberts (Brian), Karl, John (Eva), and Jim (Fleur). Grandchildren, Heather, David (Cicila), Jacob (Erica), Simon, Warren (Rebecca), Nick, (Hayley), Jordan (Mark), Adam (Holly), Connor and Owen. Great grandchildren, Noah, Felix, Penelope, Ben, Lex, Scarlett and Daxton.
Predeceased by her children’s father, Joe, son Bill, and brother-in-law Carl. Mary has one surviving sister, Emma (Gerard Ϯ), having been predeceased by siblings, Jan, Nellis, Toon (Lisa), Jo, Annie (Harry), Liz (Jan), Cor (Cornelis), Stan (Annie) and Fons, all of the Netherlands. Also survived by in laws, Ulrike Pelkmans, Anny van Beek, Jo van Beek, Cor Wijnhoven and Fons and Toos Pelkmans.
Mary was hard-working, practical, and insightful. She liked to be busy and found pleasure in whatever it was that she was doing. She would often say that she had a good life, and that she was proud of her children. She loved her little home and wanted to stay there until the end.
This goal was achieved with the support of family but would not have been possible without Erin from Memorable Moments, Home and Community Care, VON Adult Day program and in the last few days Care Partners. With her progressing dementia she couldn’t remember all that was done for her, but she would often say “thank you for whatever it was that you did,” and I am sure she would want to share that sentiment to everyone who helped her along the way.
Mary has donated her body to the University of Western Ontario for research. There will be private celebration of life with her family on June 3, 2024. Donations in Mary’s memory may be made to VON Adult Day program or Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth. www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com
