Raye E. C. Blades Obituary
Raye Ellen Caroline Blades passed away 26th May, 2024.
Raye was born in 1932, to Bessie and Reginald Piggott, in Cambridge, England. She had an older brother, Douglas and a younger sister, Jennifer.
Raye grew up in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire and Louth, Lincolnshire.
She met her future husband, Norman Blades, in Louth and after dating for just six months married in October, 1950. They, along with their first child, James, immigrated to Canada and landed in Montreal on June 1, 1953, and then made the
long train journey to Calgary, where Norman’s brother picked them up and took them to their new home west of Nanton.
Raye always said that to live in Canada you had to like to go long, long distances. Raye and Norman lived in the Nanton area for many years and then moved to Okotoks. After Norman passed away, Raye moved to Medicine Tree Manor in High River.
Raye was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Norman Blades in 2016. She is survived by her four children, James, Michael (Joan), Paula (Jack) and David (Donna), eight grandchildren, Greg (Rachelle), Kristin, Adam (Ashley), Jennifer (Wes), Marcey (Khoa), Randy (Isabelle), Amanda (Dan), Evan, twelve great-grandchildren and extended family Margie, Ali and Abdul.
Raye was very quick witted, smart and had an inquiring mind and kept them all to the very end. We will miss her wise words.
The Celebration of Raye’s life will take place on Thursday, the 30th of May at 1 PM at the Snodgrass Funeral Chapel, 200 Woodgate Road, Okotoks, AB. Refreshments to follow.
