Jean-Charles Bourgeois, age 88, passed away
peacefully at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC with his son, Andre and
his daughter in-law, Natacha by his side. Born in Saint Anselme, NB,
he was the son of the late Edgar and Adeline
Bourgeois.
He moved to Montreal and in the States in his early
years as a child. John as he was known in States, was a
pipefitter by trade and worked in this field for many years. He
returned home to Canada with his children, Andre and Angela. Being a
single father in the 70’s was not common, but Jean-Charles
embraced this challenge with grace. He learned household basics such
as cooking, sewing and joined an organisation called “parents
without partners” to learn from other parents and to surround his
children with other children who were in similar
circumstances.
He was an avid reader of everything from “how
to” books, to encyclopedias and biographies. He had an equally
eclectic taste in music from folk to jazz and the oldies. He enjoyed
taking pictures, especially of his children. He never really embraced
technology and preferred to surround himself with items from the good
old days like cassette players, cameras, turntables, antique furniture
or other mementos that belonged to his
mother.
He was a practicing catholic and a proud member of
the St Anselme choir for many years. He took great comfort in his
beliefs and the various catholic symbols that filled his home. He was
old fashioned with a rough exterior and a very a kind heart. He was
always willing to give what he could to others. He was a simple man
who didn’t want anyone to fuss over
him.
He was predeceased by his beloved sister Jeannette
(Paul) Arsenault. He also leaves his brothers, Larry (Lois) Leblanc,
Roger (Regina) LeBlanc, and Conrad LeBlanc; as well as nieces, nephews
and their families.
We want to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the
George Dumont staff who cared for Jean-Charles during his stay.
Especially, the ones from 3F, who were always gentle, caring,
thoughtful, helpful, supportive and understanding. You made
Jean-Charles stay in the hospital as bearable and comfortable as he
could be.
There will be no visitation or service at his
request. All he wanted was to be to be buried by his
father’s side, who passed away when he was 6 months old.
Interment will be in St-Anselme R.C.
cemetery.
If you want to
honor Jean-Charles, we ask that you simply pay it forward and help
someone in need.
