Gordon peacefully took his last canoe ride on Thursday May 23rd 2024, at the age of 76 years. He was born and raised in Hawkesbury, and lived most of his adult life next to the Rouge River. He was the son of the late William Gordon and Marie Thérèse (Toupin) Fraser. Family was of great importance to Gordon; he believed family was not defined by blood, but by love and acceptance. He loved his wife, Francine Villeneuve, until his last breath; he will continue loving her, his children, Nina Fraser (Sébastien Huard), stepson Francis Desforges (Tammy), his nephew (who was like a son) Greg Morris, and his grandchildren, Maé, Mika, Adèle and Jolan. He was the brother of Marion Morris and brother in law of Nicole (Larry Husul), Maurice (Lori), Lise (Dan Burroughs), Lucie (Martin Bazinet), late Guy and Sylvain (Sophie). He will be missed by many nieces and nephews.
Gordon was a storyteller, weaving together stories from his homelands around Grenville-sur-la-rouge, seamlessly mixing historical facts with oral histories and fiction, captivating listening ears for hours on end. His book, Song of the Spirit River, recounts many of these great stories and histories about the Rouge River.
Gordon would like to thank Dr. Di Cintio and the various staff who helped him during his illness. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hawkesbury General Hospital.
Gordon has asked that there not be a memorial for him. Instead, hear him whisper his stories whenever you find yourself next to his beloved Rouge.
