Evelyn’s Obituary
Evelyn Theresa Myers (Gibbons)
December 16, 1947 – May 21, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Evelyn Theresa Myers (Gibbons) of Plymouth, Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia, on May 21, 2024, following a brief battle with cancer.
Born on December 18, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Agnes Newell. Evelyn was a caring mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She formed a special group of friends while volunteering at the Yarmouth Hospital Gift Shop, the Hullabaloo, the Hospital Women’s Auxiliary, and the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation.
In her free time, Evelyn loved traveling with many of her friends to Newfoundland, on cruises around the world, and many other relaxing vacation destinations. She always looked forward to playing crib weekly with her sister in Wedgeport, Amirault’s Hill, and Quinan, where she had another large group of friends. Evelyn was a dedicated Toronto Blue Jays fan and loved feeding the Blue Jays at her house. She believed in living life to the fullest and loved spending time with family and friends. Her dog, Annie, a source of love and company was never far from her side.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Tracy Gibbons, Plymouth, and son, Warren (Angel) Gibbons, Brooklyn; brothers Robert “Bob” (Gretha) Newell, Plymouth, Jerry (Peggy) Newell, Plymouth, Paul Newell, Wedgeport; sister Yvonne LeBlanc, Wedgeport, and sister-in-law, Gail Newell, Plymouth; grandson, André (Gillian) Gibbons, Ardoise; great-grandsons Christopher and Brody; granddaughter Logan (Adam) Gibbons, Maple Ridge, BC; great-granddaughter Lily and great-grandson Mason. She was predeceased by her oldest sister Anne Williams, youngest brother Pat Newell, and her grandson Kolby LeBlanc, also known as Master Kolby to many.
We want to thank all the staff at the Villa St. Joseph du Lac for their care, compassion, and dedication to Evelyn during her illness, as well as Dr. Power, Dr. Horton, and Dr. Chandler; the oncology department at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital, and the staff on the fourth floor of the Yarmouth Regional Hospital.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home in Yarmouth. There will be a celebration of life at the Wedgeport Fire Hall on Sunday, May 26, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Well-wishes only. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gilles Boudreau & Friends Cancer Help Fund. To leave messages of condolence for the family, please visit www.huskilson.net
