Mary Wilfong (nee Kruse) Obituary
It is with love that we announce that Mary passed away peacefully at Park Avenue Manor in Burlington on May 18, 2024 in her 88th year. Mary is survived by dear daughters Susan (Bill) of Calgary, and Kathy Braungart of Waterloo, who provided much support to her mother in her final years. She is the cherished Grandma of Gregory and Kristin. Predeceased by beloved husband Jim, first husband and father of her children, Hans, dear friend David, grandson Gregory, and siblings Helen Parks, Charles and John.
Born in Kitchener on September 13, 1935, Mary Elizabeth Anne was the eldest child of Ada and Phil Kruse. Upon completing her schooling, Mary worked in several businesses before joining Boehmers where she would remain for 25 years.
A long-time member of the United Church of Canada, she was involved in many church activities, especially singing in the choir and playing the piano. Music was a joy for her. Mary made many friends at St. James-Rosemount United Church and Carlisle United Church, in particular her devoted friend Joan, who was an Angel in her life. Mary was an avid reader and loved to crochet, knit and work on puzzles and crosswords. Despite her many health challenges during the last of her years, she kept her sense of humour.
Mary had a strong faith, and believed that ‘He’s In the Midst’ and always standing next to her.
She is in our hearts forever.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Mary’s memory to the United Church of Canada’s Mission & Service fund or Wesley Urban Ministries in Hamilton.
Mary and the family extend a special thank you to the caring staff of Park Avenue Manor.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a Visitation at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill St. N., Waterdown on Thursday, May 30 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with a Service of Remembrance at 11 a.m. and refreshments to follow. For those unable to attend Mary’s service, live streaming can be accessed below on May 30 at 11 a.m. Interment at Carlisle United Church Cemetery at a later date.
