Beresford – Robert “Bob” Austin Power – age 84, of Beresford, NB, passed away on May 19th at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst, NB.
Born in 1939 in Saint John, NB, Bob was the son of the late Marion (Caithness) and Austin Power. Bob was also predeceased by his wife of almost 60 years, Edie Power, who passed away only three weeks ago. Bob is survived by his son Gregory (Jodi MacMillan) of Saskatoon, SK, daughter Nicole (James Cousins) of Toronto, ON, sister Nancy Carr of Sus, NB, and his much loved teacup poodle Tia.
Bob spent most of his adult life in Nova Scotia. He studied pharmacy at Dalhousie University in Halifax and fell in love with the city’s trolley cars. This led him to spending over 34 years with Metro Transit, starting first as a trolley driver, followed by being both a tour guide and bus driver.
In 2018, after 50 years in Nova Scotia, Bob and Edie decided to return to New Brunswick, making their home in Beresford on the beautiful Bay of Chaleur that Edie loved so much.
Bob will be remembered for his encyclopedic knowledge of trains, planes, cars and buses, as well as his outgoing nature towards friends and strangers alike. But more than anything else, Bob will be remembered for how much he loved Edie and there is comfort in knowing that they are together once again.
The Power family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses and staff of the Chaleur Regional Hospital who worked so tirelessly to support Bob and the family over the past month. Following Bob’s wishes, cremation will take place. There will be no visitation or funeral service. Donations in memory of Bob may be made to either Knox United Church, Lower Sackville NS (by e-transfer to Donations@knoxsackville.ca or through Donate Now – KNOX UNITED CHURCH (canadahelps.org), First United Church, Bathurst NB (e-transfer firstadmin@nb.aibn.com or through First United Church | Charity Profile | Donate Online | Canadahelps, or to an animal rescue of your choice.
