MACMILLAN, Reginald Richardson Smith “Reg”
Age 82, of Bridgewater, passed away peacefully at the South Shore Regional Hospital surrounded by love.
Reg was born on March 9, 1942 to Vernon “Mac” MacMillan and Helen Rosamond “Roddy” MacMillan (Richardson) in Halifax, N.S.
He married the love of his life and teenage sweetheart, Nancy (Schmeisser), 59 years ago. They went on to have 3 daughters; Heather MacMillan, Kathy (Ian) Spence and Susan (Earl) Curran. He was the proud Grampie to 6 grandchildren; Isabelle MacMillan; Emma, Ryleigh and Lane Spence; and Ryan and Colin Curran. Every moment spent with Grampie was guaranteed to be filled with fun and mischief.
Reg worked with the Bank of Commerce and later, the Credit Union. Reg and Nancy enjoyed all their winters in Florida. While there, he enjoyed playing with the Leesburg Orchestra. Reg would make friends wherever he went. He always loved to chat and would strike up a conversation with anyone he encountered.
Music was always a major part of Reg’s life – his fiddle was always close by. He and Nancy played with music groups right up until 2 weeks prior to his death. Reg played his fiddle like he lived life; always with passion and always with a smile. He will be dearly missed.
Reg was predeceased by his parents, Roddy and Vernon MacMillan; stepfather, Jack Barker; stepbrother, John Barker; and sister-in-law, Barbara Schmeisser.
Reg is survived by his wife, Nancy; sister, Sandra (Ed) Jordan; stepsister, Aileen (Ron) Lewis; brother-in-law, Robert Schmeisser; and sister-in-law, Pam Barker. Uncle Reg will also be missed by his nieces and nephews.
The family extends a special thanks to Dr. Robertson, paramedics, and nurses of the 4th floor unit of the SSRH. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of one’s choice.
A memorial service will be held at Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg, N.S. on Friday, May 24 at 11:00 am. Reception to follow.
