SCHINDEL, James ‘Jim’ – Passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Joseph Brant Hospital on Tuesday May 14, 2024 at the age of 87. Beloved husband of 61 years to Kathleen ‘Kay’ (nee Everest) and loving father of Karen (George) Pravato and Karla (Gino) Rosati. Cherished grandpa to Laura (Luke Vandenbosch) Pravato, Sarah Pravato and Michael Rosati. He is survived by many cousins in Ontario and Manitoba. Predeceased by his parents Walter and Marjorie (nee Dressler). Jim was a passionate musician, who started playing drums as a young teenager. He served in a number of bands over the years namely; Lincoln and Welland Regiment Band, The Niagara Falls Concert Band, The Fort Erie Concert Band along with various jazz and dance bands throughout the decades. He worked for over thirty years at General Motors until his retirement in 1988, after which he enjoyed various careers including teaching a technical program at Niagara College before finally retiring for good! Jim was one of the founding members of Survivors of Stroke Niagara (SOS Niagara), and as a result was the recipient of the Mayor’s Volunteer Leadership Award in 2015. Friends are invited to join the family at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St. Niagara Falls, visiting Friday May 24, 2024 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. A Funeral Service in celebration of his life will be held at the Funeral Home at 3pm. Memorial contributions may be made to The March Of Dimes (SOS Niagara) and will be appreciated by his family.
