It is with great sadness that we, the family of Marilyn Groom-McNamara announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend on Friday, May 10, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.
Marilyn was born in Louisdale to the late John William & Mary ‘Rose’ Marchand. She worked as a personal care worker at the Richmond Villa for 15 years, was a member of the alter society at St. Peters Catholic Church and a member of the Relay for Life Team (The Mad Hatters). A woman of great faith who prayed daily for family in friends; her tremendous faith and devotion helped to carry her through life’s struggles and health challenges giving her hope, courage and strength. She loved unconditionally sharing her affection freely with everyone.
Marilyn’s children were her pride and joy. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Thankfully, she is now at peace surrounded by love and the open arms of family.
She will be forever remembered by her children, Natalie (Jerry) of Lower L’Ardoise, Glen (Laura) of Lantz, Darrell (Tracy) of Lower Sackville. Grandchildren Brittany (Richard), Collette (Dylan), Ashley (Hunter), Kaitlyn (Dylan) Ethan and Alex. Greatgrandchildren Taylor, Cameron, Owen and Oliva. Stepchildren Gary (Judy), Michael and Leah. Step Grandchildren Dana-Jo (Gage), Matthew (Alyssa). Step Great Grandchildren Brody, Bowen and Bradlee.
Marilyn is also survived by brothers Herman (Carmelita), Donald (Diane), Sisters Julia Cordeau, Evelyn Kraitzek (Hubert), Sylvia Hopkins, Janice MacKinnon (Edward), and sister-in law, Donna Marchand and Maryann Groom, Darlene (Byron) Lafford.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her Husband William (Billy) Groom and Noel G. McNamara, brothers Clifford, Ronald and Douglas Marchand. Brother-in-law Arlin Cordeau, Jackie Hopkins, Joseph MacKinnon, Richard Stone, Alfred Groom, Joe McNamara and John Eddy McNamara. Sisters in law Anne Marie McNamara, Teresa Stone. Nieces Chelsea Marchand and Shelby Gerrior.
Visitation will take place at the River Bourgeois Community Funeral Home on Thursday May 16th from 2-4 and 7-9.
Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00pm on Friday May 17th at St. Peters Roman Catholic Church followed by burial for Marilyn and her late husband Noel in Parish Cemetery. A reception will be held at the Tara Lynn Community Centre in River Bourgeois following the burial.
Special thanks to sister Janice for her devotion and dedication to Mom during her illness. Dr. Steven DeRoche and the Palliative Team for their unwavering support and compassion.
Memorial donations can be made to the Breakfast Program at Each Richmond Education Centre or to the Palliative Care Society at the Strait Richmond Hospital.
