Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Granville Frederick Layden announce his peaceful passing on May 10th, 2024, at the age of 91. Left to mourn with loving memories are his children; Joy Burt (Gary), Paul Layden (Karen), Keith Layden (Elaine), Sherri Enns (David), his 8 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. He also leaves his sisters-in-law Betty Layden and Charlotte Layden, along with a large circle of nephews, nieces, other relatives, and many good friends. Granville is predeceased by his wife Rowella (nee Locke), his parents John and Annie Layden (nee Pritchard), his siblings Mabel Critch (Lease), George Layden (Mary), Hazel Beals (Ron), Irene Anderson (Carl, Norman Warren), Clifford Layden, Marion Tucker (Alpheaus, Donald Edgar), John Layden, Elizabeth Wheeler (Thomas, Winston Simmonds).
Granville was a quiet, kind and gentle man who devoted his life selflessly to supporting and caring for his family. You would often hear him singing or whistling a tune as he went about his day. He spent many hours enjoying the company of his friends, getting together to sing and entertain others, and for some good old-fashioned fellowship. He was loved by all who knew him and will be missed by many.
At his request, cremation has taken place. There will be a public visitation held on Wednesday May 15th, 2024, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Country Haven Funeral Home at 167 Country Road, where the funeral service will take place on Thursday May 16th 2024 at 2pm with Pastor Larry Soper officiating. No flowers by request. In Granville’s honour, memorial donations can be made to First Pentecostal Church (FPC) on Premier Drive, Corner Brook. E-transfer accepted by donating to fpcdonor@gmail.com.
