In Memory of
Bertha Rose Stromquist
1936 – 2024
Bertha Rose Stromquist (Derval, Demars), cherished mother and beloved grandmother, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children and grandchildren on April 25th at the age of 88. She leaves a legacy of love, warmth, and remarkable resilience.
Bertha lived a full and vibrant life and touched the lives of numerous people along the way. She embraced a variety of roles in her lifetime. At age 17, while living in Edmonton, she worked at the GWG Company. It was that experience that gave her the passion of sewing and the ability to earn additional income from home while raising her four children with her husband George, in Alix. When he passed away in 1972, needing to be the provider for her family, she attended Red Deer College and graduated as a legal secretary. She then had careers from owning her own construction company, to being a real estate agent, and then becoming the bookkeeper for her son’s business. Bertha was creative and had an artistic flair with her crafts, drawings and paintings and enjoyed gifting her completed work to family and friends.
Bertha’s loving spirit will live on in her children: Donna Hansen of Edmonton, Patricia Korth (Robb Pollock) of Calgary, George Demars of Red Deer and Tina (Allan) Macdonald of Red Deer; grandchildren: Candice, Cody (Danielle), Trena (Shane), Jordan, and Gage; and great-grandchildren: Lauren and Elizabeth. She is also survived by her stepchildren: Wade (Caron) Stromquist, Marty Stromquist and her brother Bob (Sylvia) Derval. She is predeceased by her brother Victor Derval and husband’s George Demars and Ruben Stromquist
A big thank you to Dr. Rattan and the amazing staff at Timberstone Mews in Red Deer, for her care over the last 5 years.
A family celebration of life will be held in Edmonton at a later date.
