Margaret Power Obituary
With her sudden passing, our family is celebrating the life of Margaret Power (June 7, 1940 – May 5, 2024). Mom grew up in Hebron, Nova Scotia, in a family of fourteen children to parents Mary & Reginald Graves. Mom was a proud mother of six children, think of the Brady Bunch: Mona (Mike) Campbell, Tony (Nancy) Wilson, Terry Jefferson (Dixie Coughlin), Randy (Debbie) Jefferson, Dean (Karen) Wilson, and Karen (John) Thorne. She was a grandmother to sixteen grandchildren, a great grandmother to twenty-eight (with two more on the way) and a great-great grandmother to one. She is survived by her siblings Beverly, Mary, Miriam, Ruth, Pat, Richard, twin sister Faith and Linda. She was predeceased by Reginald, Shirley, Philip, Robert, and Carol. Mom was also predeceased by three husbands Earl Jefferson, Ross Wilson Jr. and Tom Power.
Over the years the Graves clan had many family reunions at various locations including Vermont, Yarmouth, St. Martins, Fundy National Park, and Ontario. These famous reunions allowed cousins to get to know each other, while the brothers and sisters caught up and shared family experiences which included games, variety shows, the famous penny auction, lots of food and a lot of family fun!
In her spare time, Mom was an enthusiastic Hockey Mom, “THE” childcare provider of Beaver Harbour, host of Rummoli events (when Dad was working night shifts), and Yahtzee get togethers with her friends Darlene and Judy. To further help with expenses, Mom would also do sewing and upholstery for people in the community. She was famous for buying “crystalized” milk in bulk, which required her to become a local distributor, where we were basically the only customer. Mom allowed us to host road hockey events, sliding events, and birthday parties …..hot dogs were the main cuisine. But her happiest tradition was Christmas time. She went all out for Christmas, getting out boxes of decorations, cooking up a storm, and always waiting until late on Christmas Eve to finally wrap presents……even convinced her daughter in-law Debbie to help one Christmas Eve. She made Christmas a magical time for us kids. Thank-You Mom!
With her third husband Tom, they began camping out at St. Martin’s, with its beautiful beach and welcoming environment on the waterfront. Mom and Tom truly enjoyed their time there, socializing with friends and family. They truly fit right in. Even after Tom passed away, Mom continued to camp out there every summer, looking forward to returning to the campground each year, right up to her passing.
Later in life Mom settled into Saint John, spending a few years providing home care services to seniors. Finally making the decision to retire Mom began enjoying time with her children and their families. She spent many a Christmas out in Edmonton, Alberta with her daughter Karen and her family. In the last few years, Mom spent many afternoons playing cards with a group of friends. She always looked forward to spending time with her “card group” and even winning a little money here and there. Terry and Dixie introduced her to ‘Dominos’ in which they spent many an evening at her apartment challenging each other. She was mentally sharp with a good conversation, a good laugh, and a hug right up until the end.
We love you Mom and Thank-You for all you have done for us.
Your Family.
