Obituary
Joann Elizabeth Voyce
Born November 18, 1940
With family by her side, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joann Elizabeth Voyce on February 7th 2023.
She was predeceased by her parents Murray (Ted) Voyce and Dorothy (Stewart). Joann leaves behind her sister Margaret Greer and brother-in-law Gary Greer, her nephew Todd Greer, two nieces and their spouses Allison & Brad Kilgour and Janice & Mike Swift, as well as, great-nephews Ayden and Declan Swift.
Joann studied and worked as an X-ray Technician in Ottawa, Carleton Place, Toronto and Calgary. While living in Calgary she opened a lady’s clothing store (Sloppy Joe’s), also started a new career with President’s Choice. Joann enjoyed her years in Calgary and sharing her home with her niece Allison and nephew Todd when they moved west. After retiring for good she moved back to Carleton Place where she made new friends and re-established her school mate friendships.
Joann was an active member of the Presbyterian Church of Canada volunteering her time and talents to her church. Joann was an avid reader from her youth and a historian, spending hours searching and documenting and producing the history of her mother’s Stewart Family from Scotland. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends including watching her nephews Ayden and Declan, hosting birthday parties and special occasions, as well as, summer vacations at the lake and playing golf.
Joann became a devoted member of Branch 192 of the Royal Canadian Legion and Ladies Auxiliary. You could find her in their kitchen cooking turkeys, catering many events, organizing and participating in cards and darts. Her involvement with the Student Public Speaking hosted by the Legion was especially important to her. She was awarded Legionnaire of The Year for her Outstanding Service and Dedication to the Branch and her Community in 2017.
Joann touched the lives of many people and we shall miss her terribly.
A funeral service to celebrate Joann’s life will take place at Captain A. Roy Brown, Legion Branch 192, Carleton Place on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at 1:30 pm with a reception to follow. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by Joann’s family.
