Robert “Junior” Winchester Obituary
it is with great sadness but many wonderful memories the family of Robert “Junior” William Lea Winchester announce his passing on April 26th, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Junior was born in Arlington, PEI, but moved to Saint John, NB, in 1973. Junior is survived by his wife Cindy (nee Goddard), his daughters Heidi Holten of Saint John, Ashley Sawler (Kirk) of Long Reach and his son Terry Hueser (Cindy) of Barrie, ON. Junior “Gramps” is also survived by his grandson Jackson Lambert, who shared a special bond. Sisters Sarah (Sadie) Dolan of Summerside, PEI, Shirley Arsenault (Reg) of Lethbridge, AB. Sisters-in-law Doris Winchester of Summerside, PEI, Gloria Lambert (Wayne), Karen Goddard (Ron), Brenda Collings, Rita Cousins. Brothers-in-law Jamie Goddard, Paul Lanigan (Kim), John Lanigan (Kelly) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Predeceased by his mother Gertrude and father Robert Winchester, brother Oswald “Ossie” and sisters Edith Praught (Jack), Doreen Richard (Joe) and brother-in-law Dennis Dolan. Junior also leaves behind two special meal time companions Bella and Sprout. Snack time will never be the same for them.
Robert had many jobs throughout his life, but worked at RAOB for many years as a doorman and bartender, also Riley’s Homecare in later years. Robert loved spending time with family in Saint John and on the Island. He was well known for going on long drives on the back roads, sometimes crossing four or five ferries before landing home. He also spent many an evening enjoying time at Tim’s with friends and family catching up on the news. Junior was an avid fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and the Maple Leafs. One of the highlights of his life were his yearly trips to the Dominican Republic, which he called his home away from home. He truly enjoyed his time on the beach soaking up the sun and the friendships he made over 20 years. Robert was a friend of Bill W. for over 30 years. We hope that everyone will remember Junior with a kind thought and do some sort of small gesture to “pass it on” in his memory. He will never be forgotten, always in our hearts, and as Junior would say “Don’t pick up any wooden nickels”.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (506-646-2424). In keeping with Robert’s wishes cremation has taken place and private family services will be held at a later date. Donations to Joshua Group would be greatly appreciated.
