It is with very heavy hearts that we say, farewell until we meet again, to a loving, caring, extraordinary woman. Nell Denhertog passed away peacefully at Belvedere Heights surrounded by her family Saturday, April 20, 2024 at the age of 82.
Nell was born in Holland on February 22, 1942 to the late Neeltje and Burret van Heeringen. She is predeceased by her older sister, Joan VanNoort.
She moved with her family, from Holland to Canada on July 21, 1951 and became a Canadian citizen in 1971.
Nell was immensely proud of her loving children, Valerie (Scott), Kerrie (Jeff), Renee (Guy), Mark (Krista). She was the best Oma to her treasured and precious 10 grandchildren: Brandon, Rylan, Cara, Cooper, Kendra, Taeryn, Chase, Britain, Steven and Kendra Harris. Nell adored her three great grandsons with all her heart.
Nell will also be fondly remembered by her extended family, Dave, Glenn, Dean, Jenn and Randy and many nieces and nephews.
Her love for her family was immeasurable.
Nell became a local legacy in 1976 when she moved north from Whitby to Dunchurch.
She worked tirelessly as the owner of Duck Rock Resort in Dunchurch and later moved to Parry Sound where she thrived at her occupation as a homecare support worker. Mom instilled an incredible work ethic in her children. She demonstrated respect, resilience and compassion as a role model for others. Nell’s care and love for helping others extended beyond her health care support working days. She provided constant care at the West Parry Sound Health Centre where she offered comfort and safety to many.
Her passion beyond her workday extended to her garden, travel, curling, playing cards, and hitting the casino. She embraced all her friendships in the sport of curling, bid euchre, and her bus trips to casinos in Orillia and Niagara Falls.
A lot of miles were put on her sneakers. Most would see her walking daily across Parry Sound’s roads and trails. She put everyone else’s pedometers to shame.
Mom’s enthusiasm and zest for life was silenced by the relentless disease of Alzheimer Dementia.
The family would like to offer our sincere gratitude and appreciation to the PSWs, nurses, recreation, dietary, laundry, housekeeping and maintenance departments. All were instrumental in keeping mom comfortable and engaged.
As per mom’s wishes, there will be no service, however we will have celebration of life at a later date.
In memory of mom, a donation to the local chapter of the Alzheimer Society of Muskoka of Parry Sound or to the Programs department of Belvedere Heights, will be greatly appreciated.
