Obituary of Patricia Ellen (Hickey) Dickeson
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Patricia Ellen (Hickey) Dickeson, on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at the Dr. Everett Chalmer’s Hospital.
Patricia was born in Boiestown, NB in 1938. She is predeceased by her daughter, Linda Pauline Dickeson, who died at the age of 3. We know how much our mother missed her baby girl and we take comfort in the knowledge that they are re-united in heaven.
In addition to her daughter, Patricia is predeceased by her parents, Lawrence and Laurena (Gibson) Hickey, and her siblings Mac, Robert and Laura Anne.
She will be missed by her children, Susan Dickeson, Kate Arnold (Tony), Mike Dickeson (Brianna), her chosen child, Candace Sacobie, as well as the father of her children, Ernest Dickeson (Helen). She will also be deeply missed by her 10 grandchildren, 3 great granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.
Patricia graduated with honors, academically and athletically, from Boiestown High School. She attended Teacher’s College in Fredericton and taught school. Later she obtained an Education degree from St. Thomas University.
Mom was a fiery spirited red head who loved nature and all animals, reading, dancing, and spending time with her beloved family and friends. She was full of life and always ready to have fun. Her favorite poem was “I meant to do my work today, but a brown bird sang in the apple tree…” by Richard Le Gallienne and she would often quote it as she encouraged us to seize the day and enjoy the moment. Mom’s sense of humor and ready laugh will be in our hearts forever. We will remember her as a constant loving presence that kept our family joined as one.
Our family would like to thank the Palliative Care Unit at the DECH for their loving care of us and our Mother during her final hours.
Patricia has been cremated at McAdam’s Funeral Home in Fredericton. There will be a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in memory of Linda.
