In Loving Memory
Mr. Johannes “John” Marinus Slomp of Delhi, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, April 11, 2024 in his 68th year. He was surrounded by his loved ones. Johannes’ or better known as John to those around him, was born on April 4, 1957 in Enschede, Netherlands. He immigrated to Canada in 1983 and started working in the restaurant industry. He would go on to found Golden Fish & Chips, that he would own 5 locations across Simcoe, Hamilton, Mississauga, Port Dover and Paris over a 20 year period. He was a larger than life character, who was full of laughter but also so much generosity – through his restaurants he gave back to his employees and the communities he was proud to be a part of. Knowing John meant being intimately familiar with Frank Sinatra. Frank’s best song ‘My Way’ was a song that John owned and embraced. Karaoke nights were the best, as everyone in the crowd would join in and sing My Way.
I’ve lived a life that’s full
I traveled each and every highway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way
No one could argue that John did it his way. John’s memory and life is carried forward by his wife Diana (Wilson) Slomp. Loving father to his children, Jodi, Jennifer and Brian Slomp, and stepchildren Carrie Butler, Pamela Evoy and James Butler. Cherished grandfather of 7 beautiful grandchildren. Dearest brother of Bertus Slomp. A Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations can be made to VON (Victoria Order of Nurses) at the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, Delhi (519) 582-1290 (www.mfh.care) and will be gratefully appreciated by the family.
We’ll forever miss you x
