It was with so much love that Verdon Bennett passed away peacefully at home in Okotoks, Alberta on April 3, 2024 at the age of 73.
Verdon had been surrounded by his entire family for his last weeks and lost a courageous battle with cancer, with his loving wife, Inez, holding his hand and his family by his side – just the way he wanted it!
Verdon was born in Irishtown, Newfoundland on July 25, 1950, where he and Inez later met as teenagers. They were married in 1969 and began their happily ever after. Together, they built a home and raised their children in Irishtown before continuing their story in Fort Nelson BC in 1994. They enjoyed their retirement back home in Irishtown.
Along with his wife Inez, Verdon leaves behind his children Tonya (Allen), Shannon (Christine), Jonathan (Angela); his grandchildren Joshua, Emily (Ross), Carlee and AJ and step-grandchildren Josh, Alex (Katelyn, Noah, Theo), Carter (Jenn) and Zackary (Allie, Austin, Walker).
Loved by many, Verdon will be forever remembered by his brothers Gordon and Fred (Hilda); sisters Ruby, Ruth (George) and Alice (Bill); brothers-in-law Bill (Leen), Ralph, Fred (Judy), Ronald (Irene) and Clarence (Beryl); sisters-in-law Isabel (Kev), Emma (Gene), Helen (Randy), Laverne, Marie and Shirley and many dear nieces, nephews and friends.
Verdon was preceded in death by his daughter Sonya, his parents William (Bill) and Delilah (Blanche nee Anderson), parents-in-law Larry and Vonnie Byrne, brothers Cecil (Florence), Will, Les, Dave (Melissa), Alex, his sister Lil (Coiley), his sisters-in law Maisie, Bridgie (Andy), and Vinnie and his brother-in-law Leo.
A church service will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at the Holy Redeemer Cathedral, 15 Mount Bernard Avenue, Corner Brook at 2:00 pm, with interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery.
Immediately afterwards, all family and friends are invited to gather at the Irishtown Community Hall for dinner and to celebrate Verdon.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers or gifts that you “take your candle and go light your world” by performing an act of kindness towards someone in need in his honor.
Verdon will be forever loved and terribly missed by each of us. We will hold his love for us in our hearts forever and always.
