It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of our precious and beloved mother Alice Elizabeth Steele on Sunday March 31, 2024. Alice was born in Thunder Bay Ontario to Ukrainian parents Harry and Christine Sereda. She had 3 brothers and 3 sisters who all predeceased her.
Alice met her husband William Joseph (Bud) Steele while he was serving in the Royal Canadian Navy stationed at what was then known as Port Arthur, Ontario. After he was honourably discharged from the navy they married in 1946 and then in 1950 they moved to the Steele family homestead on Lake Joseph near Rosseau.
They raised 8 children in that most idyllic country setting. Carol Dewar (Chuck), Larry (Norma), Wayne (Georgette), predeceased by son Lynn Joseph (Lynn Anne), Randy (Lynda), Deborah Oates (Bill), Karen Waters (Noel), Sandra Murphy (Kevin).
Dad passed away in 1988, and Alice (mom) spent many years enjoying her grandchildren (24), predeceased by one granddaughter (Kendra Shandelle Waters). Her family continued to grow, and at her passing she had been blessed with 24 great grandchildren.
She leaves behind a long and full legacy and a huge vacancy in each of our hearts. Mom (Alice) was a kind, loving, soft spoken, gentle spirit, and cook/baker extraordinaire.
Be at rest in your new forever home mom/grandma/GG. You will be forever missed, loved and cherished by each and every one of us.
At Alices’ request there will a private family celebration at a later date.
