Ellen Joyce Guest (nee Stenersen)
September 1, 1936 – March 20, 2024
Mom passed peacefully at Kemptville District Hospital in her 87th year.
Predeceased by her mother, father, sisters, one brother and her husband Roland Whynott Guest, Mom leaves behind her brother Al Stenersen (Therese), daughters Debbie Amirault (Mike), Pam Guitard (Jamie), Mary Ashby (Shawn), her son Tommy, 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and several nieces.
Mom moved back to her roots from Nova Scotia in October 2021. She enjoyed drives down Latourell Road in Mountain to see her childhood home.
A bright light in the lives of everyone who knew her, Mom’s heart and arms were wide open for everyone she met. Mom was a hugger and was known to push away an extended hand to give a hug instead!
Singing in the United Church choir in Annapolis Royal, NS, dancing, dining out, playing Scrabble, Cribbage, many different card games, crocheting, and watching her favorite game shows were some of Mom’s favorite things to do.
Mom loved being a part of planning surprises for family and friends and was on the receiving end of some big surprises herself, which she talked about for years. Her 80th birthday party and seeing Stars on Ice (a dream come true) were the biggest surprises.
Mom was a social butterfly who never missed an opportunity to be around people and have a good time singing and dancing wherever there was a jam session taking place in the Annapolis Valley. Mom enjoyed the many performers and resident musicians who frequently entertained at Bayfield Manor Retirement Living.
Not one to travel alone, Mom was taken on trips to the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas (where she enjoyed seeing Cirque de Soleil shows), and to California, making sure she dipped her toes in the Pacific Ocean. Other trips included whale watching for her 85th birthday, and a trip to PEI and Newfoundland for her 86th.
Nothing filled Mom’s heart more than being with her family. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly. Mom gave them all her attention and was fascinated with every child. She also loved snuggling with her fur grandbabies Ginger and Pheobe and couldn’t get enough of them!
This beautiful, loving, kind soul will be greatly missed by her family and friends in Nova Scotia and Ontario.
Heartfelt appreciation goes to the amazing staff at Bayfield Manor Retirement Living for making Mom feel so loved and cared for every single day. You are all amazing.
To our community outreach coordinators, community palliative care team and long-term care coordinators, thank you for your assistance, expertise, and compassion as we navigated unchartered territory.
Deepest gratitude goes to all inpatient staff and doctors at Kemptville District Hospital for the warm and compassionate approach to caring for our mother.
Per Mom’s wishes, cremation will take place. Burial to take place at the South Gower Cemetery. Mom was comforted to know she would be laid to rest with her family.
If there are jam sessions in heaven, we know Mom and Rollie will be there.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kemptville District Hospital Foundation.
