It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Peter Guenther, surrounded by his loving family at the Timmins and District Hospital on Thursday March 7, 2024 at the age of 83.
Peter was the beloved husband of 59 years to Gloria (Nicholls). They married on November 13th, 1964. Dear father of Sharon Rheault (Patrick), Wayne Guenther (Sylvie). He loved his grandchildren Amanda (Kevin), Stephen (Milauni), Kelsey and Sarah beyond measure and always had the biggest smile watching his two great-granddaughters Elora and Ava play. Also left to mourn is his sister Katie (Cliff), his brother-in-law Allan (Diane), his sister-in-law Grace (Leo), Glenda (Ray), and numerous nieces and nephews. Peter is predeceased by his parents Henry and Barbara, as well as his siblings Tina and Dick.
Peter was born in Carrot River, Saskatchewan. He left home at an early age and ended up in Ontario for work where he met the love of his Gloria. He said her deep green eyes and freckles stole his heart. They married soon after and started their family. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 793 for 55+ years. He said he was happiest when operating heavy equipment. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and prospecting with his family and friends. Although he was the strong silent type, he loved his family very much and was not afraid to tell them how proud he was.
We wish to extend our thanks to the Doctors and Nurses of Medical B and Hospice for their wonderful care and ongoing compassion throughout his stay.
Cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to LESSARD Funeral and Cremation Centre. A private family service will take place in the late spring. Remembrance donations to the Timmins and District Humane Society would be greatly appreciated.
