It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Leigh Bruce, on March 7, 2024 at Hospice Windsor after a recent pancreatic cancer diagnosis.
Rob is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Maxim Bruce, children Derek Arthurs (Emily), and Paige Arthurs (Matt). One of Rob’s greatest joys in life was being a LOUD and proud “Grampy” to Weston and Ivy, whom he absolutely adored. Grieving their youngest son are parents, Jim and Nancy, brother, James (Orli), and niece Courtney (Ben) who mourns her Uncle Rob from Australia. Rob will be missed by a multitude of family and friends across Canada including surviving aunts and uncles, Caroleann Brown (Lester), Linda Chambers (Robert), David Begin (Petra), Tammy Burgess (Kerry), Lisa Begin (Gregg) all of Nova Scotia; Zelma Racicot (Garry), Jimmie Begin both of Toronto. Predeceased by (Dewey) Begin, Jackie Hood (Brad), Richard Begin, Johanna Begin and Marie (Bruce) Hood. Deeply missed by sisters-in-law Alison Miller (Paul), Stef Maxim, niece Layne Miller and nephew Gavin Miller (Lydia). The Arthurs family was very special to Rob. He will be missed by his golf buddy Karen, who came from West Van to lend support, as well as Craig and Stephen of Toronto.
Rob lived his brief life to the fullest, embracing everything it had to offer. An avid traveler, concert-goer, and music collector, he would often reminisce about following the Grateful Dead and Phish over the years and loved to spend the weekend at the Detroit Jazz Festival. Those who knew Rob, know his love of greenery. He was devoted to tending to his plants and nurturing his garden, proudly showing off his work and always willing to share his bounty with others. Often you could find him in the kitchen (with the golf on in the background) sharing good laughs over a few Heineken preparing a fantastic dinner for friends and family. Rob and Nance loved to travel and had some great trips to NZ, AU and snorkelling and hiking in the South Pacific, as well as adventures around the UK, France and Italy. Rob was especially fond of his trips exploring British Columbia, Newfoundland and visiting family in the Maritimes. A natural athlete with a love of hockey and running track at RSS, Rob was a member of Club 240 when they competed in Russia, Sweden and Finland in 1985. Rob’s favourite sport was golf and he enjoyed his time with the Riverside Putters Golf League. He was a well-respected manager with more than 30 years of dedicated service with Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
Rob had so many special friends who showed immeasurable love and support for the family during his brief illness. Special thanks to Billy Miller for coming in from Vancouver to be with him in his last days, Elizabeth and Tony Santarossa and Rhonda, Bill and Mike Ellis for keeping us well fed. The family would like to thank the RAAMP team, and in particular Family Practitioner, Dr. Ainsley van Gool, for being so proactive and compassionate, and for the wonderful care he received at Windsor Regional Hospital 4 North and Hospice Windsor. He will always have a special place in all our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Rob may be made to Fight Like Mason Foundation, Ronald McDonald House or the Windsor Es County Humane Society.
As per Rob’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial visiting will be held at Families First Funeral Home from 4 – 8 pm on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. A private family service will take place at a later date.

  1. I’m very sorry for your loss. I worked with Rob for a relatively short while but remember him as a dedicated and engaged manager with a great sense of humour. It was a pleasure to work with him

  2. I remember Rob fondly. i too worked with him directly for a short while and in a different way from RHG. He took on a big responsibility with CIC in Windsor and though serious about his job, he always found the laughs in work. I am sure he will be missed but he leaves many good memories behind.
