“Marg” or “Gaye” Macari passed away peacefully at the Brockville General Hospital on March 6, 2024 in her 87th year, with her family at her bedside. Marg died after a brief illness, she was of strong will and heart to the end.
Marg is survived by George, her husband of 65 years, and their daughter Tara Macari, son-in-law Michael Frere, and their children Maggie Frere (David) and Mack Frere, as well as Marg’s grandchildren Ryan Macari (Liz) and Brooke Macari (Arvin).
Marg was predeceased by her sons, John and Brian, her daughter in law Shelley, as well as her siblings Gerry, Bernie, Brian, Francis, Mae, and Paul.
Marg met George, the love of her life, on the dance floor in Dublin, Ireland. For 65 years the two of them danced whenever the opportunity arose. She enjoyed many years watching her boys play hockey, she was the one with the cowbell in the stands. The hockey parents became her friends for life. She was mostly a stay at home Mom, but once the kids flew the nest she spent several years working at Black & Decker. In time she discovered the Irish Culture Club and met many new dear friends.
Marg was happiest in her garden, feeding her birds, and boating on the river. She was the life of the party. She took great pride in her children and her grandchildren.
The family is grateful for the excellent care provided by St. Elizabeth Home Health Care, Home and Community Care Support Services South East, and to the Brockville and District Hospital Palliative Care Service.
Per Marg’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, June 14, 2024 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm at Tara and Mike’s house at 306 Gilbert Rd, Elizabethtown, Ontario.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation’s Palliative Care Unit.
