On February 8, 2024 in her 90th year, Bonnie (Bonita) Davidson passed away peacefully with her family by her side. Bonnie came into the world as Shirley Ann Forrest, and once adopted at age four, she was named Bonita Kathleen Haining. Bonnie was born outside of Fredericton, New Brunswick and moved to Toronto, Ontario to attend Nursing School at Toronto General Hospital. It was during that time in Toronto, that Bonnie became reacquainted with Ron Davidson and they married in 1955. Together, they had three daughters, Suzanne (Robert Steele), Heather (Glenn Mackay), and Beverley (Tom Deeth). Bonnie was proud to share photos and stories of her family which included six grandchildren who called her Mimi; Matthew (Meghan), Bethany (Vaclav), Caitlin (Paul), Nikki (Kyle), Ainsley and Paige, as well as four great grandchildren (Morgan, Zoja, Mia, and Nora Grace). Family was the most important thing to Bonnie, and having her family around made her the happiest of all. Bonnie had a competitive and inquisitive nature that kept her brilliant mind energized. She became a self-taught Master Bridge player and was undefeated when it came to the game of Scrabble. Known by all for her positive affirmations and cheery smile, Bonnie (Mom, Mimi) will be missed by all who knew her. Bonnie’s family greeting “Hello Darling” in her melodic voice, will continue to resonate with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Bonnie devoted her life’s work to nursing and throughout her life continued to develop her nursing skills by returning to University to attain her Masters degree in Science and Nursing. She spent the remaining years of her career as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Gerontology supporting seniors who struggled with dementia. While advocating for seniors in her work life, Bonnie also enjoyed literary and artistic endeavours in her spare time, as she wrote several murder mysteries and enjoyed painting floral and landscape scenes. She also enjoyed music and singing. Travelling around the world with Ron was her favourite past time, and together they travelled to more than forty countries. In later years, they spent most of the Spring months in the Algarve in Portugal and they looked forward to returning each year. Whether at home or away on travel excursions, Bonnie and Ron enjoyed socializing and entertaining. They always welcomed friends and family into their home with open arms.
Unfortunately, Bonnie was predeceased by the love of her life and husband of sixty-four years.
In memory of our beloved parents, the family is planning a small private ceremony at Hillside Cemetery in Lakefield, where Bonnie and Ron will be reunited and laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Alzheimer Society of Canada for Research – www.alzheimer.ca/en. As a family, we would like to extend our many thanks to Centennial Place Long Term Care Home in Millbrook Ontario. Our mother felt loved and cared for during her year and a half there, and we are grateful for her peaceful passing surrounded by the staff who cared and supported her.
