September 7, 1935 – February 8, 2024
The family announces with great sorrow, her death on Thursday February 8, 2024 at the Golden Manor at the age of 88.
Predeceased by her husband Alfred Cooper (2023), her daughter Deborah (2009) and her son Christopher (2005). Also predeceased by her parents Arthur and Mary Nahwegahbow of Birch Island, Ontario and her younger brother, infant Charles.
She is survived by her daughters Lorna, Nancy (Wayne) and Marlene (Marinko); her grandchildren Jonah, Tosh, Madison, Michael, Samuel, Harrison, Riley and Geneva; her great-grandchildren Darwin, Lowyn, Meegwin and Johnny.
Margaret is also survived by her younger siblings: Pearl (Don), Adam (Leona), Claire (late Andre), Edward, Alec (Judy), Rose (Brian), Barbra (Terry), Pat (Tony), David (Lois) and Monica.
Margaret was born and raised on the Whitefish River First Nation. She graduated from the St. Joseph’s School for Girls (Spanish Indian Residential School) and went on to become a registered nurse before marrying Alfred and raising her family. She was a devoted wife and mother and a woman of great faith. She was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Women’s League for many years. During the 1970’s, Margaret was the Director of the Timmins Chapter of Birthright, a volunteer pregnancy support service. She was truly passionate about supporting mothers and their unborn babies.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at the Golden Manor, especially all the workers of West 1, for their compassion and care.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 16, 2024 from 7-9 pm at LESSARD Funeral and Cremation Centre. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 10 am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish followed by interment at Timmins Memorial Cemetery. A light luncheon will follow in the Lessard Reception Centre.
