Obituary For John Gerard Van de Pol
May 10, 1955 – February 2, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John Gerard Van de Pol, an amazing husband, father and friend on February 2, 2024.
John attended St. Clements Elementary School and St. Joseph High School. He worked at the Grande Prairie Booster, the meat packers and settled at Weyerhaeuser where he worked for 45 years before retiring in 2020. John had an amazing sense of self. He knew who he was, and he never tried to be anyone else; he had a great sense of humor which he passed down to his children.
John was an amazing man with a heart of gold who loved fishing, tying flies, and One Island Lake was his favorite spot. He loved to golf and spent as much time on the course and loved to have family and friends join him upon his retirement. He loved to talk to his sisters and brother and argue over facts from the past and he was always right! The Montreal Canadians (The Habs) was his favourite hockey team and he loved to watch all of the games and was so excited to go to Montreal with his son, Taylor to enjoy a game.
He loved all kinds of music and if you were ever not sure what song was playing, John knew and his love for music was something he shared with his children.
John’s friends and family could not have loved him more and a huge hole will be felt by all of us. He was loved and will be truly missed.
You changed our lives in so many ways, Johnny. We love you.
John is survived by his loving wife, Shelley and their children, Toni Lasell (Greg), Kane Bruce, Teresa Van de Pol and Jeni Bruce. He has left behind eighteen grandchildren: Sira, Tyra, Ethan, Shania, Kael, Torin, Shane, Zachary, Connor, Tanner, Xander, Haley, Mackenzie, Sawyer, Rylie, Ryder, and Easton. He also leaves great grandchildren Madison, Emery and Rowen, his sister, Francisca (Rob) Kelham, brother Rick (Deb) Van de Pol, sister Elly (Lorne) Tardiff, as well as brothers-in-law Dave (Denise) Bruce, Chad Olson and sisters-in-law Sari (Mike) Bilodeau who was like a daughter to John, and Ruth Barnes. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins as well as many dear friends.
He was predeceased by his much loved son and best friend, Taylor Van de Pol, his beloved grandson Drake Bruce and his loving parents, Johanna and Marius Van de Pol.
A Gathering of close friends and family will be held on Sunday February18, 2024 at 11am-2pm at Bear Creek Funeral Home, 11802 99 Avenue, Grande Prairie in Prairie Hall.
Donations in memory of John maybe made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Fund or to a charity of your choice.
