Veronica Balogh Obituary
Veronica Balogh (nee Orban), passed away peacefully at Georgetown Hospital on Monday, February 5, 2024 at the age of 94. She was born on November 24, 1929 on a farm in Arbury, Saskatchewan. Predeceased by her husband Frederick (2002), parents Louis Orban (1990) and Helen (1935). Dearly loved by her sons Sherman (Libby) and Art (Sue). Proud grandmother and cheerleader to Caroline, Denise, Leanne, Wes (Charmy), and Kristen. Biggest fan of great granddaughter Maya. Veronica is survived by her siblings Joseph (Irene), Alfred (Pat), Anthony (Esther), Betty (Bruce), Pius (Lauretta) and Benjamin (Linda).
Veronica married Frederick Balogh at St. Ann’s Church in Arbury in 1952; eventually they settled down in Welland, Ontario to raise a family. Trained as a seamstress, Veronica performed her tasks with pride, sewing clothes for her family and friends. Veronica was a life long, active member of the parish of St. Augustine Church where she enthusiastically participated in many church fund raising activities. Veronica and Fred made a name for themselves in the Niagara Peninsula through the successful ownership and operation of a pet store, Broadway Aquarium
Veronica was an eternal optimist and an assertive force when defending the moral fairness of others. Never one to be idle, she was a wonderful baker, needle crafter, and bingo enthusiast. Her sense of humour, whether said in Hungarian or English, was enjoyed by many friends and relatives. In the last years of her life, Veronica enjoyed word games, puzzles, reading, and socializing with other residents at her retirement home in Welland, and then in Georgetown.
Thank you to Dr. Ahmed and Dr. Engmann and nurses at Georgetown Hospital for their compassion and care. Thank you to Kristen, Sami, Alyssa and all the staff at Amica Georgetown, for their kindness, patience and expert care. Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a future date in Welland where she will be reunited with her late husband Frederick.
We will miss you and think fondly of you always.
