John William Harmsen Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John William Harmsen, on February 1st, 2024, at home surrounded by loved ones.
John was born in Arnhem, Netherlands to Jana and Gerhard Harmsen on June 6th, 1936. After immigrating to Canada in 1958, he found work at a local job site in Kingston and learned the trade of masonry. He ventured on his own in 1972 to start Harmsen Masonry which he owned and operated for over 45 years.
In his younger years, John was an active member of the Kingston Soccer Association and captained the Flying Dutchman soccer team for many years. He continued his love of soccer and was a proud supporter of the Dutch national team – Go Oranje!
John loved to be surrounded by his many friends and family to share a story over a drink or two in his shop.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife Sonja, children John (Wendy) and Tina (Mike) Felhaber, brother Theo (Kitty) and many cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
John was predeceased by his brother Geri and sister Diet.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
