Obituary of Hugh Ferguson
December 5, 1945 – January 24, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we share the news of Hugh Ferguson’s peaceful passing on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at the Ruddy Shenkman Hospice in Kanata, ON. Hugh, aged 78, was surrounded by the love of his family during his final moments. He is survived by his adoring wife, Roberta Ferguson (née Noel). Proud father of Sarah Jane Ferguson (Spencer Stevenson and daughter Autumn), Andrew James Ferguson (predeceased), Tanya Luke, and Natalie Armstrong (Kevin). Cherished grandfather of Lily, Aliya, India, Cyan, Austin, and Jack. Predeceased by sister Margot Ferguson (late Andrew McCreadie) and Flora Tripp (Ian). Son of the late James and Irene (Montgomery) Ferguson. Born in Ottawa, Hugh’s journey took him to Arnprior, where he grew up and attended school, finishing his education at Pickering College before starting his career with Scotiabank. He became a successful entrepreneur after leaving the bank. In 1991, he embarked on a remarkable adventure in Barbados as the Senior Vice President of Jolly Roger Cruises Inc. A man of distinction, Hugh was deeply involved in philanthropy and community service. He was a proud member of the Shriners with the Tunis Temple, serving as Potentate in 1987 in the Ottawa and Hamilton Consistory. Additionally, he was a respected member of Lodge St. John in Salters, St. George, Barbados. Hugh’s commitment to community and brotherhood extended beyond borders, leaving a lasting impression on those who had the privilege of knowing him. His sharp mind, warm heart, and unwavering dedication will be fondly remembered by all. Hugh’s arrangements have been entrusted to the Boyce Funeral Home Ltd., 138 Daniel Street N., Arnprior. A Celebration of Hugh’s Life will be held in the spring with interment of cremated remains at Arnprior Albert Street Cemetery. In memory of Hugh, a donation may be made to the Ruddy Shenkman Hospice, Kanata at give-can.keela.co/hospicecareottawa, the Canadian Cancer Society or the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.
