Allison Ruth Gosse (nee Churchill) passed peacefully away at home after a brief illness on Saturday, January 20, 2024.
Ruth leaves to mourn her husband Lloyd, children Allison and Stephen, son-in-law Wayne Tucker
daughter-in-law Crystal Ryan, grandchildren Hayley, Kate, Ella, and Jane, brother Alvin (Cecilia),
special sisters-in-law/lifelong friends Evelyn Drover and Hazel Gosse, many cousins, nieces and
nephews and a wide circle of close friends.
She was predeceased by her parents Brigadiers Abe and Collie Churchill. Although Ruth spent her childhood in various communities around Newfoundland, she had a special affection for Monkstown where many of her extended family lived, and where she and Lloyd spent many wonderful summer vacations.
Ruth’s warm, generous, and fun-loving personality endeared her to all who knew her,
particularly those who called her their friend. Married to Lloyd for 55 happy years, they shared
many adventures together, living in Mount Pearl for over 30 years. During this time, she was a
special part of many families lives as she cared for their children at Wee Gems Preschool. Upon
retiring, Ruth and Lloyd moved to Bay Roberts where they had an active social life filled with
sharing meals with friends, playing piano accordion together, ruckus games of Skip-Bo, taking
road trips, spending days at Hilda’s cabin, and having plenty of fun.
An important focus of Ruth’s life was her role in the Women’s Ministries (Home League). She took tremendous enjoyment in fostering a community of women who could learn together, laugh, and support each other. Ruth was an ideal grandmother who delighted in hosting tea parties, reading books, baking, and thrifting with her granddaughters. They brought her immense joy, and in turn she
taught them to love, to live generously, and most of all, the importance of laughter.
Ruth will be loved in her absence and sadly missed by many.
